Cumbria - the Lake District is spoilt
for choice when it comes to high quality golf courses, most
of which offer stunning views across lakeland coutryside.
There are a number of golf courses close to each of our five
Lake District hotels including Keswick
Golf Club at Threlkeld Hall, which is a challenging, par
71 course that sits on Threlkeld Common and offers scenic,
panoramic views of Blencathra, one of England's highest mountains.
Residents of the Lodore Falls Hotel & The Borrowdale Hotel can play this course free
of charge Monday to Thursday inclusively.
One of the finest courses in the county
is Silloth-on-Solway, which is of championship course standard.
During 2004 it was voted 24th place in Golf Monthly's review
of Britain and Ireland's top courses, just in front of Royal
Troon Golf Club (25th place). They comment that "Carding
a good score is a true test of nerve and industry on this
intriguing layout".
Eskdale
Golf Club is a parkland course with stunning views of
Scafell Pike and the neighbouring fells visable from every
fairway. Their signature hole is the 151 yard Par 3 14th.
An elevated tee looks toward an "island" green set
within a vast trout pond.
Other courses of note include Carlisle
Golf Club, Windermere
Golf Club, Kendal
Golf Club, Appleby
Golf Club and Maryport Golf Club.
Clubs can be hired at most of these
courses. Booking essential. Non-handicappers, can pay and
