Christmas Programme 2009
Take a step back in time to that golden age of true hospitality, service and
comfort. We create the complete festive atmosphere for you to share with
family and friends both old and new. Inside the hotel is adorned with beautiful
traditional decorations, while the housands of Christmas lights and trees on
the outside of the building, combined with our friendly staff and excellent food
and drink will make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
Christmas Eve
Arrive in the afternoon and be welcomed with a glass of hot Christmas punch and delicious
Crumpets, Mince Pies and a Taste of Cumbria buffet served in the comfortable lounges overlooking
beautiful Ullswater. Settle into your warm and welcoming room and then enjoy a walk to the lake or
explore the charming village of Glenridding. In the evening we gather in the Lounge Bar for Cocktails
and Canapés and meet the hotel’s General Manager and his team where he will inform you of
the coming days events and entertainment. Later on join us in the Lake View Restaurant where an
exquisite Gala Dinner will be prepared by our Head Chef and his team. During dinner our magical
magician will entertain you with his fantastic range of magic and slight of hand, also look out for Robin
the Cartoonist who will entertain you with his caricatures and provide you with a unique memento of
the occasion.
After dinner we have arranged a magical candlelit walk down to the shore of Lake Ullswater where
a glass of mulled wine, hot roasted Chestnuts and marshmallows awaits. (Warm boots and jackets
recommended). For those of you who wish there is Midnight Mass at St Patrick’s Church, Patterdale.
Christmas Day
Breakfast on Christmas Day is a leisurely affair, start your day with a traditional Cumbrian breakfast and
add a bit of sparkle with a glass of Bucks Fizz. Relax and enjoy your morning and if you feel energetic
join the Christmas Treasure Hunt around the grounds, a perfect way to get some fresh Lakeland
air. After your efforts it will be time to meet in the Lounge Bar where orders will be taken for a
sumptuous Christmas Day Lunch served in the Lake View Restaurant.
Make sure you leave room for coffee and mince pies served in the lounge and then settle down for
the Queen’s speech at 3pm. In the evening a Taste of the Lakes and Fells buffet is served, offering the
opportunity to taste some traditional Cumbrian specialities and delicacies. With relaxation in mind we
have prepared a light-hearted Christmas Quiz to round off the day.
Boxing Day
A true Cumbrian breakfast will be served in the Lake View Restaurant. Enjoy a Stirrup Cup of the
infamous Inn on the Lake Hot Fruit Punch – guaranteed to clear the cobwebs – and then wander up
the valley to see the local hunt set off from the White Lion Inn at Patterdale. If you feel energetic then
we suggest a visit to the Aira Force Waterfalls. Park your car at the National Trust car park and take the
gentle stroll up to the cascading waterfall to see the Lake District at its most spectacular.
There will also be a guided walk from the hotel, which will offer a choice of routes to suit the
experienced as well as not so experienced ramblers. In the afternoon – weather permitting – join
us on our cruise on Lake Ullswater. Take a short stroll to the pier and climb aboard one of the
comfortable Steamers where you can enjoy a glass of mulled wine whilst admiring the spectacular
scenery. (Don’t forget to wrap up warm). After the cruise Tea and Crumpets will be awaiting you in
front of the fireplace in the Lounge.
On the last night a splendid farewell dinner with a large selection of mouthwatering puddings will be
served in the Lake View Restaurant followed by live music and an exciting THE NAME IS BOND
casino night in the lounges, where our casino tables roll into life with professional croupiers trying to
take your ‘money’. Fun money will be issued and the gambler with the most ‘money’ at the end of
the evening will win a Magnum of Champagne. The first Dry Martini’s – shaken but not stirred – are
on us!

For those who leave us we bid you a fond farewell –
however for those of you who wish to extend your
stay please refer to the tariff for extra nights.
